Heavy Load Application

H10 to H20 — 16 to 32 Kip axle loads. Designed for fire lanes, emergency vehicle access, utility vehicle access, and overflow parking with heavy commercial or municipal traffic.

Sub-base build-up (top to bottom):

1. GRASSY PAVERS™ panel (1.75" height)
2. Sandy loam topsoil fill or crushed stone
3. Leveling layer: angular sand or sandy loam (1.5")
4. Gravel/Sand or Class 2 Road Base (2"–8") — 75% (¾"–¼") gravel + 25% sand, compacted to 95% Modified Proctor
5. Existing soil sub-base: CBR ≥ 3

Note: Base depth varies with loading requirements, frequency, and subsoil conditions. Consult a site engineer for high-traffic applications.

Light Load Application

Pedestrian, nature trails, green spaces, handicap access. Ideal for walkways, recreational trails, garden paths, ADA-accessible routes, beach access, and areas with foot traffic or light vehicle use.

Grass fill application:

1. GRASSY PAVERS™ panel (1.75")
2. Sandy loam topsoil fill
3. Bedding layer: angular sand or sandy loam (1.5")
4. Existing soil base: CBR ≥ 3

Stone fill application:

1. GRASSY PAVERS™ panel (1.75")
2. 3/8" diameter gravel, crushed limestone, or crushed brick
3. Bedding layer: angular sand or sandy loam (1.5", optional)
4. Existing soil base: CBR ≥ 3, depth 2"–8"

Materials (in order of installation)

1. Porous road base (required for heavy traffic — fire lanes, etc.) — sandy gravel mixture; washed masonry sand component; aggregate not to exceed ¾" diameter. Depth determined by site engineer.
2. Bedding layer — washed masonry sand, 1–1.5" depth. Optional when using aggregate fill.
3. GRASSY PAVERS™ panel — 97% recycled HDPE, honeycomb cell design, UV stabilized. 15-1/4" x 19-3/4" x 1-3/4", 2.14 sf, 2.40 lbs, Black.
4. Fill material (grass) — sandy loam topsoil (60/40 mix) or topsoil typical of locality as approved by architect.
5. Fill material (aggregate) — 3/16" minus crushed stone to 3/8" is ideal; washed pea gravel is a good alternative.

Installation procedure

1. Excavate site allowing for thickness of all materials.
2. Grade subsoil and compact.
3. If required, install porous road base material and compact to standards determined by site engineer.
4. Install sand bedding layer on top of subsoil or road base. Compact and level. (Optional with aggregate fill.)
5. Install GRASSY PAVERS™ over bedding layer using a bricklayer's staggered-joint pattern. Cut panels with a hand saw or reciprocating saw to fit curves, edges, trees, curbs, and lane markers.
6. Grass fill: fill cells with topsoil mixture level with top of paver (do not overfill). Water thoroughly, reapply topsoil to low spots, then apply grass seed evenly. For sod, leave cell depth for sod thickness (e.g., 1/2" for 1/2" sod). Roll or press sod into place with turf roller and saturate with water.
7. Aggregate fill: fill cells to top and compact with vibratory plate.

Snow plow areas: set blade height at 2" above paver surface. Maintain grass installations with normal turf care — irrigate, fertilize, and mow as needed.
