Architects and engineers, planners and developers are thinking “green”; designing and building eco-friendly, energy-efficient, high-performing, sustainable, and water conserving buildings and surroundings with features that promote natural over chemical, recycled over new, and renewable over expendable. While the initial cost to “go green” may be initially higher than using more conventional building methods and materials, the payback in energy efficiency, water conservation, and even worker productivity easily exceeds those higher initial costs.

CSI Section 02795 — Porous Paving
Minimum 97% post-consumer recycled, reinforced High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Maximum 3% UV stabilization and coloring. The HDPE is sourced from recovered post-consumer plastic waste ("regrind"), diverting it from landfills and repurposing it into a high-performance structural paving product.

Hexagonal cells, each 2‑1/8" × 2‑3/8" with a 1‑5/16" base opening and 1/2" perimeter openings providing both horizontal and vertical drainage. Cell wall and base thickness: 1/8" — strength comes from the geometric design, not from fill material.
H10 to H20 — 16 to 32 Kip Axle Loads
Designed for fire lanes, emergency vehicle access, utility vehicle access, and overflow parking with heavy commercial or municipal traffic.
Note: Base depth varies with loading requirements, frequency, and subsoil conditions. Consult a site engineer for high-traffic applications.
Pedestrian, Nature Trails, Green Spaces, Handicap Access
Ideal for walkways, recreational trails, garden paths, ADA-accessible routes, beach access, and areas with foot traffic or light vehicle use.
With 93% open area at the top of the cell and 46% open at the bottom, GRASSY PAVERS™ deliver industry-leading stormwater percolation performance. The porous paving system provides a complete stormwater management solution that satisfies EPA requirements and local municipal stormwater ordinances without costly drainage infrastructure.
Up to 8 inches per hour with turf fill. Over 10 inches per hour with aggregate fill. Rates increase further as base depth increases.
Tested runoff coefficient of only 1.2% at 3 inches/hour rainfall. Traditional solid paving has a minimum runoff coefficient of 95%+ regardless of rainfall amount.
Stormwater percolates immediately into the aquifer through the porous paver design, providing direct, immediate groundwater recharge at the point of precipitation.
Eliminates the need for retention ponds, drainage systems, and filtering systems in most applications — saving significant land area, construction cost, and ongoing maintenance expense.
The most direct method of stormwater management: a known percentage of void space with compacted aggregate and a known percolation rate from the existing subsoil allow retention and dispersion rates to be easily calculated and documented for permit compliance. GRASSY PAVERS™ are a recognized stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) and are valuable for use in sensitive wetlands and ecologically volatile systems.
GRASSY PAVERS™ surpass the performance requirements of ASTM F 1951‑99, the standard specification for accessibility surfaces under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ASTM standard measures the work required to propel a wheelchair across a surface — both in a straight line and while turning — using a calibrated force wheel on a rehabilitation wheelchair. To comply, the Work Ratio must be less than 1.00 (i.e., easier than propelling up a 1:14 slope ramp).
TURF FILL — Straight
0.351
Work Ratio (must be < 1.00)
TURF FILL — Turning
0.532
Work Ratio (must be < 1.00)
AGGREGATE FILL — Straight
0.340
Work Ratio (must be < 1.00)
AGGREGATE FILL — Turning
0.501
Work Ratio (must be < 1.00)
Testing confirmed that soil, sand, turf, aggregate, wood chips, or crushed rubber fill all meet the ASTM F 1951‑99 ADA accessibility criteria when used with GRASSY PAVERS™.
Architectural Specifications — Materials & Installation
Snow plow areas: set blade height at 2" above paver surface. Maintain grass installations with normal turf care — irrigate, fertilize, and mow as needed.
